Training: Putting It All Back Together

Workshop description: Disaster recovery requires the whole community to work together. All stakeholder in a community from local government to houses of worship, need to work collaboratively to make recovery safe, effective and comprehensive. This workshop will introduce participants to the best recovery practices that have emerged from decades of lessons learned in disasters of all sizes and types.

Trainer: Rev. Dr. Bryan Crousore, an Emergency Response Specialist with Church World Service, has thirty years of experience in helping communities organize for recovery. He will illustrate how long term recovery groups form, organize and operate to touch on the functions of long term recovery.

Sponsorship: The Iowa Disaster Human Resource Council (IDHRC) is comprised of faith-based and voluntary agency representatives from throughout the state as well as representatives from key government agencies. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department developed the council at the request of local emergency management coordinators to identify and address the unmet needs of Iowa citizens impacted by disaster events. In addition, group members will assist with the coordination of volunteers and donations during activation of the State Emergency Operations Center as requested, and continue to promote cooperation among all volunteer and faith-based organizations. The IDHRC encourages the formation of similar groups at the local level.
