Seminar: Creating a Resilient Community

Jasper County Emergency Management and United Way are sponsoring a seminar "Creating A Resilient Community" on August 16th. The two sessions are:

1. Dr. Terry Besser, Professor of Iowa State University will introduce and explain community shocks and resilience, provide insight into the factors that promote resilience and present suggestion for improving community following economic and natural disasters.

2. Virgil Goodrich served as the director of the Parkersburg Economic Development Corporation during the 2008 tornado and Don Temeyer served as the Community Development Director for the City of Waterloo until his retirement and is currently a technical advisor for HR Green Company. They will be sharing their experiences, challenges, plan for a successful recovery and lessons learned from their work with Parkersburg natural disaster recovery.

The event is free and open to the public.
